Members of the Oshkosh Area Board of Education:
As a tax payer, I have a few questions about your upcoming referendum.
First I would like to remind you that you were elected to
act in the best interest of your constitutes, not the teacher’s union.
1.
Will you be asking for any wage concessions? Since the average teacher in the OASD makes $69,000
for working 6 hours a day and 190 days a year, that works out to $60.52 per
hour (facebook Oshkosh Area Politics). To point out the disparity with the
people that foot the bill, the average resident in the OASD earns $53,000 for
working upwards of 250 days a year and 8+ hours a day. That is 26.50 per hour.
2. Will
you be making our teachers and administrators pay for their own education? Everyone
else has to.
3. Will
you be demanding that Mr. Mack and the OASD stay within its budget?
4. Will
you pledge in writing that you will NOT come back to the voters and tax payers
for three years for more money?
If you are not going to do any of
these things, then I feel it is time to say NO. We are taxed enough already. Fully
2/3rds of my Property taxes go to our schools. Yet ever year you come back to
the well. Our schools need to be run more like a business than any other branch
of our local government. The blessings of ACT 10 were to relieve the tax payer
of the burden of out of control public sector unions, still you continue to
work with the teacher’s union and expand the burden.
Thanks for your time
Dan Lenz
